Benchmark Furniture
was founded by Sean Sutcliffe who had a dream of launching his own furniture workshop, and was inspired by his travels around Denmark to bring industry and employment to a rural community. It was at this time that he met Terence Conran and a firm friendship was made over a shared interest in making, wood, design and sustainability. They founded Benchmark together and the workshop and showroom are situated on the grounds of Terence’s country home.
Made in the UK.
View CollectionBenchmark offers a British interpretation of high-end Danish design. With their understanding of wood and their skilled millworkers, they create astonishing product designs by renowned designers from the US and Europe, including David Rockwell, Space Copenhagen and Norman Foster.
Benchmark has a strong commitment to producing product for a healthier world and has expanded this pledge with a product line holding a DECLARE certification. More than ever, consumers value transparency. Through self-disclosure of ingredients, sourcing, and life cycle information, Declare is a tool to show customers that your product is one they can trust.
Responsible Production
Since Sean and Terence founded Benchmark in 1984 sustainability has been at the heart of the business. The mission is to create furniture that makes a positive contribution to human health and the environment.
Environmental Impact
We have chosen to invest in Life Cycle Analysis of our core product collections to enable us to provide independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to demonstrate the low environmental impact of our furniture.
Non-Toxic Materials
To challenge the way upholstery is usually made, we have chosen not to use plastic foam. Instead, we have developed upholstery which uses natural, sustainable and biodegradable materials – coir, latex and sheep’s wool.
Transparent Healthy Products
Our furniture has Red List Free and Declare labelling that shows where it comes from, what is made of and where it goes at the end of its life. There are no harmful toxic chemicals and meets the standards for WELL certified buildings.
